Around AirTight, you can often hear people talking about “Tribal Knowledge”. What is it and how do we use it. It starts with working toward mastery of a specific set of skills, then once you rise to a certain level near mastery … You share all you know to those on your same trail, but following behind you. The knowledge is shared via simple questions from team members, i.e., “ I am working on a humidifier issue, here is what I found. Have you run into this before?”… “ Which AirTight document would be best for me to complete following this diagnosis so we get the accurate details back to the customer?”…”I am on a service call and have found a unique controls problem, will you help me double-check my steps and make we sure we are spot on with the next steps?”….
These are typical questions asked of a Technical Team Leader at AirTight. We are proud to call Chris Dennison, 12 years of service at AirTight and Nate Morse with 9 years here, our Technical Team Leaders. In this role, they are each assigned a group of technicians that they serve as a direct line of communication, leadership model and mentor for. The nature of our business is continuously evolving and these men provide the experience and knowledge needed to grow those following in their footsteps.
Chris and Nate meet monthly with AirTight Founder & President, Greg Crumpton to discuss goals, techniques and trainings needed. “ Having our Technical Team Leaders in place provides our team with direct access to the senior members for guidance. This in turn means faster on site trouble-shooting and problem solving for our customers” said Greg. Just a better over-all field level of execution.
They also meet quarterly with their teams to review company policies, safety procedures as well as any new or updated procedures to use in the field. A current topic for these meetings is preparation for the Spring Preventive Maintenance inspections. The team reviews all aspects of what to check and how to document this work properly.
We think the Technical Team Leader role is pretty unique for our industry, but it works for us here at AirTight. Having these men in place to lead provides consistency at each job we are called upon and ensures our technicians are performing at the highest standard, what we call “The AirTight Way.”
